Letter
from the Chairman

Wolfe
Principal of the North River Consulting Group
We
are into the fifth year of cargo security in the aftermath
of 9/11. The world changed but the world goes on—security
is both a ‘big deal’ and another item of ‘business-as-usual.’
The continuing growth
of trade and freight transportation volumes keeps raising
the stakes for getting security right. As the global economy
produces annual records in container movements, prosperity
becomes that much more dependent on reducing risks of supply
chain terror events and related disruptions to trade. We need
to better calibrate the balance of security and trade facilitation
in advance of any terror event and in ‘re-starting’
the trading system after an event.
This conference
offers attendees the opportunity to pull together these critical
themes:
- Effectiveness—sharing information on cargo security
solutions that make a difference
- Collaboration—increasing the ability of supply chain
partners to work together for security and efficiency
- Regulation—better understanding potential mandates
to improve cargo security
- Harmonization—exploring the implications of new
international regimes, such as the WCO Framework of Security
Standards
- Integration—looking at domestic as well as international
cargo security
- Innovation—getting the latest results on using
technology to enhance security, visibility, and efficiency
- Economics—getting a better handle on the costs
and benefits of “doing security right”
Join us in Washington
DC this December, learn from the policy-makers and industry
innovators, and add your voice to the discussion.
