Marc
Mitchel
Transportation
Practice Director
EIS
Marc Mitchell helped
co-found Enterprise Information Solutions in 1994 along
with 3 former technical team co-workers. With a background
that includes a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and
Computer Science from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign
and project assignments that have included key architect
and design roles on several large scale, leading edge custom
application development projects, Marc has worked hard to
ensuretechnical capability plays a core role in the make
up and direction of this uniquely focused organization.
Not being comfortable with the term "consulting firm",
which just seems too high brow; EIS goes out of its way
to describe itself as a computer engineering company.
Today, Marc's title is Transportation Practice Director,
which reflects EIS's focus on several of the vertical industries
where they have the most experience in adding value through
the application of technology. For while it is technology
that provides the ability to scale operations, decrease
costs, or attack new markets, in today's IT climate people
make commitments based on a demonstrated understanding of
their business and its specific challenges. The shift to
a vertical Practice focus was one that Marc helped define.
The fact he has spent much of his career dedicated to the
specific challenges of the transportation industry on projects
for such industry heavyweights as FedEx made the decision
to focus on this vertical first fairly easy to make. In
this role, Marc works hard to stay on top of the trends
of both the companies that make up the industry and the
vendors that attempt to serve them as well as the emerging
technologies that can make a difference in the way operations
got the job done. As an unbiased advocate for what holds
the most potential for bringing efficiencies to the operational
environment, Marc strives to bring his message of technology;
most notably standards based “Open Systems”;
to the industry through numerous speaking events, papers
and articles.
